I left my corporate job and suburban existence to buy an expedition catamaran, bring people from around the world together, circumnavigate, see what may be soon gone -- local cultures and pristine natural beauty -- and have a lot of laughs along the way. I hope to have you with us one day on the crew of LESS TRAVELED.
Would you like to join us? Now is the time to let us know. We have 3 amazing people, Alex, Louise, and Dave, moving on to their next step in life, all in late December. We will be in the Caribbean by then, and would welcome people in January, February, or March.
Our platform is fairly straightforward. We wish to have people who will make at least a 3 month commitment, truly invest themselves in this ongoing campaign, share food and fuel costs, and otherwise bring something awesome to the table. All boat costs are my responsibility, including spare parts, insurance, cost of the boat, etc. We try to repair everything ourselves, but do use yards when necessary. Regarding actual costs, we run a very lean operation and eat well but do so buying in bulk. We can share our specific costs with you if you are interested (and I'll do a video on this soon). We want to make this as accessible as possible to all.
Who are we seeking? Are you from a country we never had on the boat? Or are you a great sailor, a mechanic, healthcare professional, a videographer, super cook, a divemaster, play the didgeridoo (automatic acceptance), served in your nation's military, know how to eat 50 hotdogs in 15 minutes? It doesn't really matter what is is, but we do enjoy learning things from each other and keeping the boat refreshed with new talents, nations, and perspectives.
Even a relatively large yacht like LESS TRAVELED gets small when you are with 6 or 7 other people for months. Some things that really help are a great deal of emotional intelligence and self-awareness, putting others before yourself at all times, never being late to a watch or a daily duty, eagerness to learn and improve, a very positive outlook on life, a sense of adventure, patience, and love of laughter, nature, and culture. We do not want political activists or sermonizers plying their trade aboard.
It is difficult to maintain a job while here, due to the challenges of communications and the group dynamic -- if someone always has to work it can be a buzzkill for others. I get this question a lot. So while it's possible, really think about how much you would want to work if you joined us.
Finally, we do enjoy a good time. You can see this in our videos. But we have a zero tolerance policy while sailing. Alcohol or drugs have no place whatsoever while underway. If you are cool with that, then you don't have to worry about being thrown off the boat in some remote location.
So, with that gentle admonishment, if you want to discuss with us, contact us and let us know as much about you as possible. Send a video if you can. Then we will reach back out to you so we can all meet and see if it's a good match . It's that simple.
Go for it. You won't regret it.
